CWA Is Involving Its Membership In Planning For Union's Future - LaborTalk By Harry Kelber
CWA’s pro-member policies make the union attractive to many of the industry’s unorganized workers. It has organized more than 16,000 workers at Cingular wireless since 2005. Overall, more than 38,000 workers at Cingular are now represented by the CWA. This is, by far, the best organizing record in the AFL-CIO and Change-to-Win coalition.
It would be nice to report that other unions are considering following the CWA example, but there are no favorable signs as yet. Too many national labor leaders are ready to settle for a declining union that they can control — until that happy day when they can retire on a lucrative pension.
In those unions, if the rank-and-file wants a voice in the union’s future, they will have to fight for it.------------------------------------------- posted 5:28 AM :: reference link ::
