Welcome to the Official Woody Guthrie Website - In The News
HAPPY 66th BIRTHDAY "THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND" - On February 23, 1940, Woody penned the lyrics to "This Land Is Your Land" when he first arrived in New York City and was residing at Hanover House, a boarding house on 43rd Street and 6th Avenue. Originally titled "God Blessed America", Woody's lyric was a political response to Irving Berlin's hit tune "God Bless America". At the bottom of the lyric Woody comments, "All you can write, is what you see."------------------------------------------- posted 9:14 PM :: reference link ::
