CANADIAN OPEIU AUTONOMY OPEIU.ca - Office & Professional Employees' International Union, Local 378
In March 2004, the Canadian National Committee ('CNC') - the decision making body of elected Canadian representatives - unanimously resolved to reject any additional payments to the International union and to seek a solution acceptable to all Canadian members. At that meeting, the International President pointed out Canada could become more autonomous. Article XIV (1) sets out the Canadian autonomy right in the International Constitution.
At the April 2004 International Executive Board meeting, the International President proposed changes to the International Constitution that would radically limit the ability of Canadians to participate in the International union and be able to protect and retain provisions in the International Constitution which directly affect our Canadian membership. Canadian International Vice-Presidents voted unanimously to reject the US Executive proposal and related Constitutional changes.
