In June, Robison was convicted in U.S. District Court in Birmingham of submitting false statements to the Environmental Protection Agency. Also in that case, related to violations at the McWane plant in Birmingham, Vice President James Delk and McWane Cast Iron Pipe were convicted of conspiracy to violate the Clean Water Act by discharging wastewater in Avondale Creek.
In September, McWane's Anniston plant, Union Foundry, was fined $4.25 million for illegally treating hazardous waste and committing safety violations that led to the death of a worker.
McWane's New Jersey-based Atlantic States subsidiary and several executives are on trial for worker safety violations, air and water violations and for obstructing criminal and regulatory investigations.
