As a student, Edwards got hands-on experience building a house and later completed his carpenter's apprenticeship through Carpenters Union Local 413. With a journeymen's card and skills under his belt, he later entered college for a business degree.

“I’d say that, for about 80 percent of my students, this is their place to shine,” he said. “They excel here. There’s nothing more rewarding for me when they do. I’ve seen several students go on to become carpenters or perform other work of a woodworking capacity.”
Beykirch teaches four woodworking classes: introduction to woodworking, machine woodworking, cabinet-making and an advanced woodworking shop.
