Union questions city's choice of contractor for sewer work By CHRISTOPHER SCOTT, Lowell Sun, MA
Distributing the fliers is Joseph Saracino, regional organizer for the Laborers' International Union of North America. The union, representing tradesmen such as masons and carpenters, has about a 1 million members in North America and 65,000 in New England.
A spokesman for Methuen said the fliers are a reaction to the union's unsuccessful attempts to unionize the company's workers.
Saracino said Methuen Construction, a non-union shop, increased the cost of the $10 million Water Utility upgrade project when its workers demolished walls that contained harmful asbestos. Cleaning up the asbestos, a known carcinogen, cost the city nearly $54,000.------------------------------------------- posted 8:45 AM :: reference link ::
