Enrollment in construction ed programs is down - by B. Candace Beeke, Michigan Business Review
Though Ed Haynor, consultant for the West Michigan Construction Alliance, says job opportunities remain high for union tradespeople, he agrees that the industry is pushing toward a worker shortage.
'The average age of construction workers in Michigan is fast approaching 50,' Haynor said. 'This will necessitate more entry-level opportunities for high school graduates, those seeking a career change .... In order to do this, much more emphasis must be placed on getting career information to those who might have an interest in construction and giving them the access to attend those programs.'------------------------------------------- posted 6:40 AM :: reference link ::
